West Education Campus Principal Megan Vroman has some lofty goals: becoming fluent in Spanish and traveling to all the continents--even Antarctica!---among them. But those are just her goals outside the school building. For West she has plans to improve test scores, attendance, and the school climate.

"My goal is that you guys [the students] love coming to school, that you're satisfied with your school, that this is a place you want to be every day," Vroman said.

Vroman, 30, will use her experience in both traditional public and charter schools during her tenure at West, which began with the 2015-2016 school year. Before joining DCPS, she worked for Scholar Academies, a system of charter schools in the District. She moved to the area after working as a teacher at a public school and founding a charter school in Texas. She also worked for Teach for America, supporting ten schools, about half of which were charter and half traditional public schools.

Vroman's goals for next year are not set. There is half of this school year left to go, after all. A goal-setting night for the West community is scheduled for February 12 at 6 pm.
